Beauty Channel was fortunate to interview Dr. Lee Hyun-joo, a renowned natural cosmetics formulator and beauty educator in Korea. Dr. Lee studied aromatherapy and beauty care in Australia and the UK and has long been one of top experts in the field. She served as a professor in the past and has recently started a cosmetics company in Jeju, Korea. She also runs an international beauty training center in Jeju in her capacity as a chairperson of KBWA.
We hear that you are an aromatherapy cosmetics specialist and a beauty educator in Korea. Can you briefly introduce your background?
I have worked in aromatherapy and cosmetics field for 25 years. After studying aromatherapy in Australia, I came back to Korea and conducted education in aroma and beauty care industry. It has already been 25 years now. I once taught my students as a professor at a couple of universities. Currently, I run a cosmetics company called the Wellness Life Institute Co., Ltd. (www.thewellness.kr), which is located in Jeju, the most beautiful island province in Korea. I also leads the Korean Beauty Wellness Association (KBWA www.gokbwa.com), which is a community of beauty wellness professional in Korea devoted to overseas beauty exchange and education.
You said you run a cosmetics company, what features do you have and what role do you play in it?
Based on natural essential oils, our company produces diverse lines of products for facials and body treatments. We currently have two brands, one is 6Drops and the other is N.CosLab. All are pure natural cosmetics. Some materials are extracted at our laboratory. My role is mainly focused on R&D and formulations.
Do you sell your cosmetics in Vietnam?
Yes. Recently, a store called Jeju Plaza has been launched at the 4thfloor of Banhall Mall in Ho Chi Minh City, where you can try some of our products. The store also carries other products that are from Jeju. If you are online, you can visit our company’s shopping mall, www.6-drops.kr, to see the whole products. If you have a chance to come to Jeju island, please visit our company, we will give you special gifts. Just tell us that you saw this article.
Thanks for the kind offer. You said you are also conducting a beauty education business, can you explain more?
I have been conducting beauty education for foreign students in Jeju island for several years. I have experience teaching many students in college in Korea and abroad, and those experiences are very helpful. As already mentioned, I currently run a professionals association called KBWA, where Korean beauty experts work as lecturers. Jeju island is the only place in the country where visas are exempted, so foreigners are welcome to visit. We have a one week short term course, two or four week course here. The fields of training include skincare, makeup, and spa management strategies. If you are interested, please contact us through our homepage.
If you have any views or comments on the beauty market in Vietnam, would you please tell us?
The beauty market in Vietnam is growing very rapidly, and we know that cosmetics and beauty service consumption is increasing as the social activities of Vietnamese women increase. At this point, I think the role of beauty experts is very important. Beauty professionals need to make sure that the market is stable and mature by disseminating the correct knowledge and information about cosmetics and beauty treatments. I think the role of the media is also important in this regard. Because the disorder and excessive competition may confuse the market, the media like BEAUTY CHANNEL should play a role as a good guide.
